Die Uni Hamburg ist eine der renommiertesten Hochschulen in ganz Deutschland. Hamburg ist nicht nur als Stadt ein Anziehungspunkt für junge Studenten, sondern hat auch ein breit gefächertes Spektrum an Themen, die man in Hamburg studieren kann. Nicht nur Betriebswirtschaftslehre und Architektur wird an der Uni Hamburg groß geschrieben, sondern auch Germanistik, Geschichte, Jura und Lehramt.
Zudem ist die Uni Hamburg der Vorreiter für das sogenannte Duale System, dass in den 90'ern in der Stadt zum ersten Mal ausprobiert wurde. Das Duale System war eine Initiative der Stadt Hamburg, dass man sein Studium mit einer Lehre verbindet. Das gibt den Studenten die Möglichkeit, in ihrem Lehrfach auch eine Ausbildung nebenbei zu machen, und somit Erfahrung im Beruf zu sammeln, den man später mit dem fertigem Studiumabschluss belegen könnte.

Die Uni Hamburg hatte mit diesem Pilotprojekt einen gewissen Anteil daran, dass andere Städte es heute genauso machen, da es in Hamburg in den ersten Jahren nach Einführung des Dualen Systems ein regelrechter Erfolg war. Nicht nur für die Studenten, die somit zweigleisig gefahren sind, sondern auch für die wirtschaftlichen Betriebe in der Hansestadt, da sie sich mehr junge Leute ins Geschäft holen konnten, sie aber nicht zu dem gleichen Satz bezahlen mussten, wie die Lehrlinge.

Es gibt zurzeit eine Bürgerinitiative, die das Vorgehen der Stadt zu einem möglichen Standortwechsel stark verurteilt. Das letzte Wort für einen möglichen Wechsel in das Viertel an der Elbe ist noch nicht gefallen, und es bleibt abzuwarten, wie sich die Politiker entscheiden. Klar wäre der Umzug in das schicke Hafenviertel für die Uni Hamburg ein weiteres Aushängeschild, aber man würde auf der anderen Seite ein ganzes Viertel kaputt machen, dass außer die Studenten nun mal keine Kunden hat.
